I just want to clear up a misconception... or the potential for misconception... just because I went nutso and made a totally type A laundry room does not mean that my whole house is impeccably clean or organized. Anyone who has ever visited can attest to that, unfortunately. I would love to be able to say that it is... but sadly, I fall into the category of people who dreams of being totally organized and usually ends up somewhat organized with a few major chaos centers that I try to keep hidden. The laundry room had become a chaos center, and definitely needed repainting, etc. Thankfully, thats all done now and is organized, clean, and workable.
And I have to admit, the laundry room project itself was therapy for my soul- doing something creative and productive while the winter keeps me stuck inside. Since that was such a success, I'm thinking maybe I should use the momentum and keep going with some of the other chaotic places in the house...
A few current chaos centers in the Nichols homestead:
-my bedroom
-the garage
-the storage room
-the basement closet
Maybe if I dedicate a week or two to each and start getting stuff in order... it worked well for the laundry room anyway. None of the above chaos centers need painting, but they need purging, cleaning, and organizing. Of course it sounds great to just work on one per week or something, although in the next few weeks I have a Life Teen retreat (plus all the prep work for it), a long weekend retreat for me at the monastery in KY, the Living Stations (for Life Teen), Easter, a trip to New Orleans... basically most of my weekends between now and spring... but maybe if i plan to spend at least a couple evenings per week I can begin to make some progress and avoid the winter blues at the same time... Stay tuned.
