Bitterly Cold

Hello imaginary readers :) Its another frigid day here in michigan... -4 degrees as i drove to work after morning Mass. sigh. I am tired of cold feet (no i'm not nervous about anything, my feet are actually cold), although i can't complain too much other than that since i work indoors and haven't had to shovel absurd amounts of snow. It is good to see the sun shining through the window at least, although there is still quite a chill in the air here, despite my scented candle flickering away making it seem cozier than it really is. :)

I actually thought of something to post about... but now i can't remember. sigh. so you're in for some random ramblings instead.

Yes my friends, it is already February! Where does life go?? I'm looking forward to spring, which will hopefully come faster than i think. I miss being outside, the yard work, gardening, bbq, biking with the Magster, lots of ball with both BOC, and just being outside without freezing my tush off!!

My weekend was insane... one of those weekends that left me more tired than when it started... sigh... Friday night, started some laundry, went to see the Holiday at the dollar theatre with roommate and friends, entertaining, but i don't know if i can actually recommend it. Saturday: baked like a fiend... baking is good stress relief for me, and i prefer the act of baking over eating the actual baked goods! anyway, i knew we were having a girls night that evening and they'd need some breakfast options for Sunday, so I baked peach bread, banana bread, pizza dough and sweet bread dough (in Donals breadmaker). I also did random Saturday stuff like some cleaning, washing the dog blankets and rugs (I know i'm a fanatic), and even did some uncharacteristic lounging around for a bit (knowing the rest of the weekend would be anything but restful). Made homemade pizza for dinner and then began on the cornbread... you see, the Life Teen superbowl party was suppsed to be a chili cook off and no one else had volunteered to make cornbread... so i said i could do it (why do i sign up for stuff like that?) So I spent a couple hours making cornbread for 100+. In the midst of this, girls started arriving for girls night. It was a lot of girls who hadn't been to GN, and a few of the regulars... overall, it was insane and a lot of fun. Probably 16 girls for the evening and 11 spent the night, quite a houseful! I didn't sleep until after 2 am... ugh... then up for breakfast, seeing the 8.45 Mass carload off (with Kara), and trying to get everyone up and moving in time to get to the 11.15 Mass with another carload of them. Sometimes i feel to old for all of it, probably due to lack of sleep, but at the same time, I am incredibly grateful to the people in my life who have opened their homes and hearts to me through the years and am grateful that i have both a home and heart to share wiht my girls during this often tumultuous time in their lives.

After Mass, I got to go home for an hour, long enough to make yet another oven full of cornbread, and clean up some stuff... then loaded the car down to take to CTK for set up for the party, Mass, superbowl party, etc. Long long day at CTK. and a bit more exciting than planned when the church had frozen pipes in the fire suppression system and part of the ceiling filled with water, collapsed, flooded part of the church... yeah, exciting stuff. I'm just glad people were in the church when it happened so they could get the water cleaned up before it ruined pews and lots of other stuff if it hadnt been found until the next morning. I finally arrived home from all of it after 11 pm, fed the hungry BOC, called to make sure D was safe driving, so i talked to his GF for a bit, and then crashed. and thus ended the weekend, which i am still recovering from :D

In other news, puppy class was canceled Monday for inclement weather so Suz and i had the night off, which was beautiful, and gives us a chance to practice some more techniques before next week.

Last but not least, i was struck by the Gospel on Sunday Luke 5:1-11 http://www.usccb.org/nab/020407.shtml. Once again, St Peter is such a great example for me... he's exhausted from fishing all night, Jesus asks him to use the boat so he can preach to the crowds from it, and although i'm sure its the last thing Peter wanted to do, he does it because Jesus asks. and then, to top it off, after he's done speaking (which was probably fairly long) Jesus tells them to put their nets out for a catch. Peter responds that they'd been fishing all night and caught nothing (are you crazy?) but if you say so, we'll do it. He may not have expected much, but he was obedient... and sure enough, Jesus provides the miracle and fills the nets to breaking. Lord, give us the grace to be obedient, even when we are exhausted and don't understand. May our ears be attuned to the sound of your voice and may our eyes be opened to see your work among us.
