One of my many munchkin buddies turned 5 a few weeks ago, which was apparently quite a big deal for him, a coming of age, so to speak. Anyway, I got to talk to him yesterday and, as usual, he was telling me what was going on in their house at that moment, etc.
Anthony: Aunt Reenie, do you know what I say whenever someone says Baby Einstein?
Aunt Reenie: Uh, no, what do you say?
Anthony (in a wild tone): Bebey Einsttteeeiiinn!!
Aunt Reenie: oh wow
Anthony: I LOVE Baby Einstein. I mean, I'm five years old, but I still just love it! (in a very matter of fact tone)
Aunt Reenie: Well I think that's great!
Anthony: I know!!
I love him. "I'm five years old, and I still love it!!" I'm going to start using that line in my own life "I mean, I'm thirty years old and I still love it!" So many things...

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
The Good:
- A few good job prospects – nothing concrete yet, but some interviews, openings, etc. And in this economy, I am not taking any of it for granted. I am blessed.
- The new housemate – she’s laidback, fun, easy to live with, and even Maggie loves her already (which is really saying something).
- My friends… it’s hard to really put into words how much the random phone call means, or the invitation to spend an evening together, or the offer of a carpool to an event, a night of craftiness, a cup of coffee, just the fact that you are there… I am so blessed!
- Really cute munchkins – sometimes it is really hard to be the only single one in the crowd. But with every hard thing, there’s also a blessing attached – and the abundance of munchkins and the joy of being part of their lives is definitely that. I am blessed! And seriously, you people make really awesome munchkins!!
- A God who is invested in our details… the big details, the small details, and everything in between…
- Having lunch with the old Electrical gang from Neverland. I miss working with that crowd. Good to catch up with everyone.
The Bad:
- Trying to make a decision between good job prospects if I get more than one offer – right now I’m just agonizing in anticipation of said offers.
- My temp job is boring the life out of me… Don’t get me wrong, I’m thankful for the work temporarily. But I’ve only been at it a month, but honestly, most days I can feel my brain oozing out of my body from under use. And I am learning that I seriously need some challenge in my job in order to enjoy it. In the meantime, I’m doing glorified data entry, created templates in a slow software, making revisions, making more templates and revisions, and slowly losing my mind.
- I am feeling spread very thin… lots to do at home, lots of people to connect with, job hunting like a fiend, and the craziness of the holidays looming… along with all those projects I haven’t finished (or started in some cases).
The Ugly
- I still haven’t gone out to rip out the vegetable garden, and it’s dead and ugly, really ugly.
- The emotional ups and downs of being bored to death with one’s current job, interviewing for new jobs, and the uncertainty of it all. Definitely ugly.
- Last but not least, the kitchen floor. Still really, really ugly.

I'm taking a week off of working on the kitchen. Not necessarily by choice, but because the rest of life I keep putting on hold is happening - catching up with friends, and other evening activities. It is kind of nice to have a break from the painting. This weekend I may do some touching up to really finish that part before starting on the cabinet doors.
In the meantime, I had a job interview today in the company I am temping for. I think the interview went well and that the position would be a great fit - project management. It will be a week or two before I hear anything, so we shall see what happens.
I have been going to bed ridiculously late recently, a habit I really really really need to get out of. But, as usual, I am trying to cram way too much into one little life and am constantly feeling behind. Apparently I still need to learn to say no to more... to be a better judge of what is or is not realistic for me to take on... ah well, I am most certainly a work in progress.
Today I am thankful for (in no particular order):
- Some good job opportunities
- A paying job (temporary though it may be and even if the actual work is boring as all get out)
- The gift of the Eucharist, so present, so available
- Friends, lots and lots of terrific friends
- Family, great and small
- A new housemate who is great and seems to be a good fit around here
- Sunshine and the last few lingering fall leaves
- My sunshiney yellow kitchen (even if it isn't finished)
- A bed waiting upstairs...
Good night all.

Frazzled
I am totally fried. Running around like a chicken with my head cut off... kitchen painting, scrambling to clean the house at least a little before taking off for the weekend... new homie coming to bring some furniture tonight and really moving in Sunday afternoon... need to pack for a retreat... ahhhhhhh...
Weds was great - got to hang out with the gang from high school, still friends after all these years. :)
And today I realized in my excitement to the high school gang, I totally forgot it was Nichols Homestead day. My 7th anniversary of closing on the homestead. Can you believe that???? 7 years! For some reason 7 years seems insane, and like my math might be wrong - which is possible with the state of my frazzled brain - but I closed in November 2002, so that's got to be right. I could gush on and on about how much I love my home, what a huge blessing it is in my life, a life changing sort of thing... but I'm fried, and still have to wrap a wedding gift, find something to wear to said wedding, pack for a retreat, and get ready for my brother Emmet to come stay with the bitches for the weekend... ahhhhh... so tired.
Last but not least, it looks like I have two interviews coming up in the next week or two. One for a project management position at the company I'm currently temping at. I think I have a great shot at that job and it would be more responsibility, a permanent position, and a pay raise. The other one is for an organization I am personally much more passionate about, but has a lot of complications at this moment. Say a prayer that God's perfect will be done in all of this - and that the details don't kill me in the meantime!

Monday monday...
Nick and Katie came over with pizza for an evening of painting! It felt like we got a lot done, although a lot of the progress was touching up, and getting some of the smaller places I'd missed earlier. We did get the final coat of paint on all the cabinet frames. And I did the last inside cabinet. And Katie papered lots of shelves. Amazingly, I think I got everything done tonight that I wanted to, thanks to Nick and Katie. (Apparently that is the key to my success, having 3 people trying to accomplish what I always hope to accomplish myself... hmmm).

It is truly amazing how much brigher it is already!! I love it. Love love love it.

the update
The kitchen progress continues... pictures almost seem irrelevant now since you saw the "done" part of it so you know where we're heading... and besides, my camera cord is buried somewhere.
Where was I? Painting. Right, lots of painting. Anne came and primed with me Weds night, so nice to catch up and hang out with her. Thurs evening I made applesauce with Andrea and Cora (and munchkins, and later, Steve), so no painting, just applesaucing. Friday night Halloween party, so again, no painting.
Saturday was a full day of painting, and my friend Katie came to help and visit for part of it, which was fun. I migrated contents from the cabinets near the stove, got insides of cabinets (except one very small one I somehow forgot), got all the frames of all the cabinets coated with 2 coats of primer, and things are mostly ready for the final paint (2 coats).
At this precise moment, I have the fridge and stove pulled out to prime the cabinets surrounding them that I can't reach with them in place. Just waiting for it to dry so I can topcoat those, paint the walls behind there (the visible parts anyway), and then I can put the appliances back and move to topcoat the rest of the cabinets. One little bit at a time...
The schedule for the week (in my head anyway):
Sun night - first coat of final paint on cabinet frames
Mon night - second coat on cabinet frames, touching up ceiling and walls, paper shelves
Tues night - finish papering shelves, reinstall shelves, begin putting kitchen back together
Weds night - visiting with out of town friend
Thurs night - clean house for weekend guests (and new homie moving in)
Next week, at some point, I'll begin painting the cabinet doors (with Steve's paint sprayer). Then eventually I'll finish those and reinstall them... but that could be awhile, stay tuned.
Wish me luck!!
